Retired Chief Executive Officer, Jeppesen

Mark Van Tine is the former Vice President of Digital Aviation for The Boeing Company. In this role, he led a global organization of 5,000 employees dedicated to developing and delivering intelligent information solutions to enhance operational efficiency, safety, and environmental performance for aviation customers around the world. Simultaneously, he served as Chief Executive Officer of Jeppesen, a leading aviation information solutions company with a 90-year history. Van Tine was appointed CEO of Jeppesen in October 2002 and later named head of Boeing’s newly formed Digital Aviation organization in October 2012. He retired from Boeing in July 2016.

Van Tine began his career in 1981 with Lockheed DataPlan, a leading flight planning and weather services company based in Los Gatos, California. Following DataPlan’s acquisition by Jeppesen in 1989, he served as Managing Director from 1991 to 1995. He then relocated to Denver, Colorado, to oversee Jeppesen’s global flight information development, printing and distribution operations, and IT organizations. Throughout his career, Van Tine has held leadership roles across multiple divisions within Jeppesen, including flight operations, customer service, navigation, and information technology. From 1998 to 2002, he served as Jeppesen’s Executive Vice President of Operations and Chief Information Officer.

Van Tine earned a Bachelor of Science in Aviation with a minor in Business from San Jose State University in 1980. In 1998, he completed the Program for Management Development at Harvard Business School. He was appointed by the governor of Colorado to the Colorado Aeronautics Board, where he currently serves as vice chairman. Additionally, Van Tine is an active board member of the Experimental Aircraft Association, a board member and treasurer for Colorado Skies Academy—a tuition-free, aerospace-focused middle school at Centennial Airport—and a board member of the Wings Captain Jeppesen Foundation, the nonprofit supporting Wings Over the Rockies Air & Space Museum.

He holds a Private Pilot certificate, lives in an airpark in Colorado, and is an active general aviation pilot. Van Tine is a proud lifetime EAA member and flies a single engine, four passenger Glasair Sportsman airplane he built together with eight high school students in 2013. He is married to his high school sweetheart, has three grown children and he is a very proud grandfather.
